Often couples come to therapy when they have found themselves locked into certain relational patterns that continually lead to arguments or avoidance, loss of connection, and/or living like roommates instead of a romantic couple. These problems are usually the result of consistent patterns that have been developed over time. I help couples identify and alter these patterns, often with insight into how they developed in the first place. We might also explore the connection between these patterns and each partner’s experience of early formative relationships.
I work with couples to address a variety of goals or challenges, some of which might include:
-
- frequent fighting and arguing
- premarital counseling
- disconnection and isolation
- sexual problems
- parenting
- managing a separation or divorce
- recovering from affairs
- negotiating new life circumstances, such as marriage, childbirth, fertility issues, “empty nest,” blended families, and major financial changes
